Hyperbaric Therapy
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in Hawaii
Soft hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases the concentration of dissolved oxygen in your blood by placing you in a mildly pressurized chamber. The elevated oxygen levels reach damaged tissues that normal circulation cannot adequately supply, accelerating the body's natural repair processes and reducing inflammation. Non-invasive, drug-free, and available at three VMG locations.
How HBOT Works
Under normal conditions, oxygen is carried to tissues primarily by red blood cells. In a hyperbaric environment, oxygen dissolves directly into the blood plasma at much higher concentrations than normal atmospheric pressure allows. This dissolved oxygen reaches tissues that damaged or restricted blood vessels cannot supply adequately, including injured tendons, inflamed nerve roots, and post-surgical sites.
Conditions That Benefit from HBOT
Accelerates reduction of swelling and inflammation following acute injuries, surgical procedures, or flare-ups of chronic conditions. Complements injection therapy by enhancing the healing environment.
Reduces persistent low-grade inflammation that drives chronic musculoskeletal pain. Particularly useful for patients who have plateaued with other treatments.
Enhances healing of damaged tendons, ligaments, and muscle tissue. Often prescribed alongside PRP therapy to maximize the regenerative environment.
Elevated oxygen supports recovery of compressed or damaged nerve tissue. Used as a complementary treatment for radiculopathy and neuropathic conditions.
HBOT and workers' comp: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be covered under Hawaii workers' compensation when prescribed for documented work injuries. VMG handles all treatment authorization requests and insurer coordination. Coverage varies by carrier and specific clinical indication.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does HBOT feel like?
You lie comfortably inside a soft-sided chamber for about 60 minutes. Slight ear pressure similar to flying, relieved by swallowing. Most patients read, rest, or use their phone during the session.
How many sessions will I need?
Typically 10-20 sessions depending on the condition. Benefits accumulate with each treatment. Dr. Vally recommends a specific protocol based on your diagnosis.
Is it safe?
Very safe. Soft-sided chambers use mild pressures with minimal risk. No recovery time. Patients resume normal activities immediately after each session.
